Ways To Increase Laptop Battery Life

A dell laptop battery for a laptop is like oxygen for human beings. And why not, since you bought a laptop just so you could use it while you are traveling but if its Acer Travelmate 4310 battery conks out in the middle, won’t you be frustrated?
There are some ways to avoid that happening to you only if you read these tips on how to increase your laptop’s battery  life.
1. Use hibernate instead of sleep mode
You may think there’s no difference between these two. But mind you, there is. In hibernation, your computer saves the work as is and then shuts down automatically. This technique saves power as well as has a long lasting effect on your Toshiba pa2506ur Battery. What sleep mode does is, it only switches off the hard drive and display and slows down the CPU. But, the memory still remains active thus drawing power from the Acer Aspire 7520-5823 Battery.

2. Cut out on unnecessary programs
Unnecessary programs come in the form of those icons at the bottom right of your taskbar which start up when you switch on your laptop. They simply add to the CPU load, thus you should uncheck all those programs that you don’t want to run on startup.
3. Pull out external devices when not in use
External devices such as external speakers, mouse, iPod, bluetooth dongle, etc. cause drainage of ACER Aspire 9300 ac Adapter battery. The best thing to do is to remove all these devices whenever you are not using them.
4. Don’t keep the CDs/DVDs in the drives
Another way to increase your laptop’s battery life is not to leave those CDs or DVDs in the drives.
5. Diminish the brightness of your screen
As it is, having a really bright screen in front of your eyes all the time is not a good idea. What you should do is lower the brightness of your laptop screen. You can do this by going to the display settings. Just set the brightness to the lowest level which you can manage with and this will increase your Compaq 319411-001 Battery life.
6. Store the Acer Aspire 8930g Battery in a cool place
Every time you don’t need the laptop or have plugged it in, remove the HP Pavilion dv6000 ac Adapter battery and keep it in a cool, dry place. It’s also necessary for the Dell Inspiron 9400 Adapter battery to rest after running for so long, isn’t it?
7. Avoid using the screensaver
A screensaver might look very fancy and stylish to use. But you should keep in mind that it also sucks out your Dell XPS GEN 2 Battery power. So just turn off that screensaver and let your laptop screen be as it is.
8. Use an appropriate power option
There are options available that allow you to shut off your display, hard drive or put your laptop to sleep after some time of non-usage. This way your sony laptop’s battery life is saved.
9. Defrag your hard drive
The basic rule is that the lower your CPU and hard drive load, the longer your hp laptop’s battery runs. Defragmenting the hard drive will lead to a lesser load and your laptop will run faster. This will also give your FUJITSU LifeBook E350 Adapter battery a longer life.
10. Run media on your hard drive
When you are traveling, you might want to watch a movie or play songs. In this case, it’s better to first transfer media from the DVD or external drive to your laptop. This is because running a DVD or external drive requires a lot of power and this power and HP Compaq Business Notebook nx6110 Adapter battery life can be saved if you just transfer stuff from your external drive or DVD to your laptop.
11. Switch off Wi-Fi
If you are not using wi-fi, turn it off since it uses a lot of ACER Aspire One Series Adapter battery power.
A acer laptop’s battery is its life. These tips will help your toshiba laptop’s battery life to increase

Canon 5D Mark II Battery Grips: BG-E6 vs. Third-Party Grips

Canon 5D Mark II Battery Grip
The Canon 5D Mark II battery grip serves a couple of different purposes for the 5D Mark II.  As the name implies, it holds batteries – either two LP-E6 lithium-ion batteries or 6 AA batteries in the included Canon 550d Battery holder.  Likewise, the BG-E6 serves as a grip for handling the camera in portrait orientation, featuring controls for the shutter release, scroll wheel, and focus point adjustments, among others.
Canon 5D Mark II Battery Grips
The BG-E6 is a nice accessory to have; however, it runs $250.  For some, that’s a little steep for a Canon 500D battery grip.  Third party grips are much more affordable at less than $100, but are they worth the compromise? This question comes up on forums quite a bit and finds its way in my inbox now and then.
In this little exercise, we are going to take a look at the Canon BG-E6 grip and see how a couple of third party grips from Vivitar and Zeikos stack up against it.

Build Quality

The Canon BG-E6 appears to be constructed out of more durable materials than what you find in the Vivitar and Zeikos grips.  The plastic shell to the Canon grip seems like it is thicker than the third party grips.  Likewise, the rubber coating on the Canon grip is more like the coating on the 5D Mark II body, so it feels a little more “factory” than the Vivitar and Zeikos grips.

Examining the Vivitar and Zeikos grips closely, they look like they came off the same assembly line in China.  Every plate, button, seal, switch and marking is in exactly the same place.  The only way to tell them apart are the stickers on the bottom.
Canon BG-E6 Battery Grip Seals
Still yet, the Vivitar and Zeikos grips are not all that bad with respect to their build.  For the most part, they are fairly accurate reproductions of the BG-E6.  While the Vivitar and Zeikos grips have seals on the Canon 7D battery door, these seals are not as significant as found in the genuine BG-E6 grip (as seen above).  Additionally, the Canon 350D battery door on the Vivitar and Zeikos grips doesn’t have the same rubberized coating found on the BG-E6.
Zeikos Grip for Canon 5D Mark II

Handling and Performance

Again, the Canon BG-E6 feels more “factory” than the Vivitar and Zeikos knockoffs.  Everything works fine on the third-party grips though.  All the controls are in the same place and function just as well as the official Canon grip.

The Canon 50D battery door opens and closes without issue.  Batteries can be inserted and removed without issue.  However, if you lose or break the AA holder on the Zeikos or Vivitar grip, the standard Canon BG-EM6 replacement will not fit into the third-party grips.
if you were handed a 5D Mark II with any one of these three grips attached, it would function just as well as any of the other grips.  You might even had a hard time deciding which is which if not for the brand labels.  (Yeah, you’d figure it out, but it might take a minute.)
Don’t get me wrong though, the BG-E6 has a smoother shutter release like is found on the 5D Mark II body.  The third-party grips have a little bit “clickier” of a shutter release.  I didn’t encounter any difficulties with the shutter releases – just a little “clickier.”  The rest of the controls feel pretty much the same on all three models, with the Canon getting a slight edge of smooth.
Likewise, the Canon grip edges out the other two in terms of ergonomics.  I think this is mostly attributable to the more “factory” feel and additional rubberized coating.  The form-factor and grip style is almost identical, so holding the camera in your hand feels about the same.
UPDATE:  Mike Spivey asked a question in the comments about an important feature that I overlooked in this comparison.  What about the Canon 60D battery Info dialogue on the 5D Mark II?
Since the LP-E6 batteries are so expensive, missing out on this feature may not be justifiable for some.

The good news is that both the Vivitar and Zeikos grips appear to fully support the Nikon D300 battery Info dialogue, which provides you with info concerning the number of shutter actuations for each battery, which side the battery is located inside the grip and the remaining percentage of charge remaining for each Nikon D80 battery. The above screenshots were taken with the Zeikos grip attached. Additionally, you can check registration information for registered batteries and proceed with registration of additional batteries while they are inside the Vivitar or Zeikos grips.  Everything appears to work in the same manner as with the Canon BG-E6 attached.

Decisions, Decisions

Okay, so is the Canon BG-E6 worth the $250?  Well, the 5D Mark II is a $2700 DSLR, so dropping a couple of hundred bucks or so on a grip is not off the wall.  But, just because you can, doesn’t necessarily mean that you should. The Zeikos grip runs $79 right now, while the Vivitar grip is $100.
If you’re relying on your 5D Mark II as a professional tool that brings home the bacon, then it probably makes sense not to compromise on your gear.  Likewise, if you are particular about the quality of your gear, then you probably won’t be all that interested in any other grip than the Canon BG-E6.  Finally, if you shoot in demanding conditions, or you expect that your 5D Mark II with the grip will take some physical abuse, then you should be leaning toward the Canon grip.
If you’ve stretched a bit to get a 5D Mark II and don’t really want to shell out $250 for a Nikon D40 battery grip, then it may make sense to pick up a much cheaper Pentax K7 battery grip.  If you don’t mind the slight build differences with the third-party grips, then you will probably be happy with the these.  Given the apparent fact that the Zeikos and Vivitar are the same grips under different labels, it makes sense to go for the $80 Zeikos if you’re going the third-party route.

The bottom line is that you need to weigh your shooting needs against your budget and see where you come down.  I do not think that either of the third-party grips would be a bad choice, and would lean hard toward picking up the Zeikos grip if shopping for myself based on the environments that I shoot in

Is This Really the World's Smallest Camera?

Is This Really the World's Smallest Camera?
I'd say no, not really the smallest, not if we're counting pinhole cameras and all the geeky spy-angled gadgets that've been circulating for years. But judging based on general, non-specialty use, I suppose the answer's "close enough."
We're talking about what looks like a 1-inch novelty item you might slip on your keychain like a ceramic doodad designed to resemble the real thing. But in this case, the 2.0 megapixel camera from Hammacher Schlemmer (I keep wanting to pronounce that "Hammer Slammer") with a tiny keychain loop is very much the real thing: It actually works.
(MORE: Take a Look at the World's Smallest Working Electric Motor)
"This is the world's smallest digital camera," claims HS on the camera's product page, noting that its measurements are "just over one inch in all dimensions" and that it weights "only half an ounce."
"Reminiscent of devices employed by Cold War-era operatives for intelligence gathering, the camera appears to require Lilliputian agility, yet its one-button operation provides easy picture taking."
What do you get for $99.95? Auto-focus, a 2 MP image sensor that snaps JPG images at 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution or grabs AVI video (yes, video) at 30 frames per second and 640 x 480 pixels. Where does it store all that data? On a microSD card of course—a 2 GB card's included, but the camera supports up to 32 GB cards.
camera Battery life? Sounds like 30 minutes, though it takes a full hour to charge (via USB).
Caveats: It's awfully small, meaning it'd be easy to lose (or heck, swallow), and okay, taking pictures with something you can barely get a single finger on? Seriously? It's also pretty low-fi as cameras go—you wouldn't want to use it for serious or even kind-of-serious photography. The camon digital camera battery life's pretty awful, no surprise, and then there's the price: $100 for what's essentially a thimble-sized piece of novelty tech.
What do you think, Techland readers? Would you spring for one? Actually use it for more than impressing your less novelty-inclined co-workers or low-tech relatives at holiday gatherings?

Microsoft Fix-It To Extend Battery Life, Troubleshoot Power Consumption Problems

An improperly configured power scheme can reduce the HP Compaq business notebook nx6300 battery life of a notebook, netbook or other mobile device significantly. It does not really have to be something that is configured deep in the operating system; Something like a too bright display can make a huge difference. Everyone can make a wrong change on the system that impacts acer aspire one d150-1462 battery life.
Microsoft knows that and has created a Fix It to extend the toshiba pa3356u-1brs battery life of mobile computers running Windows. The Fix It furthermore can be used to troubleshoot power consumption problems on the system.
    microsoft fix it power settings
Fix Its are tiny programs designed to troubleshoot, repair or optimize features and functions of the Windows operating system.
The programs can be started right after they have been downloaded to the local computer system. This particular Fix It can be run automatically or manually. When run automatically, it will scan power related settings and correct issues that have been found automatically. While that’s probably the better options for users without computing experience, it is suggested to run the manual power settings scan instead for detailed information about suggested fixes before they are applied to the operating system.
    power diagnosis
All power issues that have been found by the scan are listed, giving the user the chance to analyze them before they are applied.
Hovering the mouse cursor over a suggested fix displays a tooltip with additional information. These are usually good enough to understand the issue at hand. Checkboxes are provided to uncheck fixes so that they are not applied on the system.(dell inspiron 1525 battery)
A click on next runs the fixes that have not been unchecked. This does not take longer than a few seconds the most.
Some of the issues that the Fix It finds are:
    • Period of time before the computer goes to sleep is set too long
    • Screen saver is used instead of setting the computer to enter sleep mode
    • Display brightness is set too high
    • Power plan is not set to the most efficient power plan
    • Wireless adaptor in not optimized for power saving
    • Minimum processor state is set too high
Windows users can download the power consumption Fix It from the official Microsoft Support website. (via)

Introducing the Panel Self Refresh Technology

Manufacturers are always looking for innovative ways to save Dell inspiron 1545 ac adapter battery life on laptops. With the embedded DisplayPort 1.3 interface (eDP 1.3), VESA, the Video Standards Association behind DisplayPort, came up with a new idea, the Panel Self Refresh (PSR). Let’s see how it works.
The video processor needs to keep sending video signals to the video monitor at a constant rate. This rate, known as refresh rate or vertical frequency, is at least 60 Hz, meaning that the video processor has to send to the video display the contents of the screen at least 60 times per second, even when there is no change in the image.
The idea behind the Panel Self Refresh is to shut down the video processor and associated circuitry when the image is static – for example, when you are reading a PDF file. The display would have a video memory (a.k.a. frame buffer) to store the contents of the last screen update, the computer would shut down all video circuitry, and the display would keep repeating the contents of the last update until there is an update to the screen contents (e.g., you scrolled the document you were reading).
When the Panel Self Refresh is used, the display engine inside the CPU can be turned off, making the laptop save around 50% power. The DisplayPort interface, which is used in the communication between the computer and the LCD panel, can also be turned off, providing an additional 25% power savings. There is also some power savings on the RAM memory, because on systems with integrated graphics engines, as is usually the case with laptops, part of the RAM memory is used as a video memory (a.k.a. frame buffer). While the Panel Self Refresh is used, the RAM doesn’t need to be accessed by the video engine, providing an additional 10% power savings. When all the numbers are added, the Panel Self Refresh technology can result in the laptop saving up to 85% power while it is being used.
Please understand that this doesn’t mean that dell inspiron 6400 battery life will last 85% longer. This saving only occurs when the computer is idle and the display isn’t refreshed. When the display needs to be refreshed (e.g., you are watching a video), this technology isn’t used, and your laptop will have the same power consumption as before. This should translate in an increase of 45 minutes to one hour of dell inspiron 1545 battery life.
Also, because now the display has to have a piece of RAM to store the contents of the image to be displayed, the panel itself actually consumes a little bit more power when this technology is in use, but this increase in power consumption is offset by the overall power savings of the system. When the technology is not in use, the display turns off the RAM chip to save energy. By the way, manufacturers won’t use a RAM chip for this function; this functionality will be embedded inside the timing controller (TCON) chip, which is in charge of decoding the DisplayPort signal and sending the decoded signal to the rest of the circuitry inside the display.
Let’s see in a little bit more detail how the Panel Self Refresh works.
The Panel Self Refresh technology works by using a new DisplayPort command, “capture static frame.” When this command is issued by the video engine, the display will capture the last image (frame) sent, storing it in its RAM memory (frame buffer). After this command is issued, the DisplayPort main link is turned off, and the Panel Self Refresh mode is enabled.
To exit the Panel Self Refresh mode, a wake-up command is issued through the DisplayPort auxiliary (AUX) link. After a brief synchronization period (“link training”), which lasts a few milliseconds, the display will be ready to receive new images (frames), and the system will be working as it did before entering the Panel Self Refresh mode.
In Figures 1 and 2, you can see a system supporting Panel Self Refresh technology. In Figure 1, the system is working normally, while in Figure 2, the system entered the Panel Self Refresh mode. The blocks in black are turned off for power saving.

    Sony W100 Overview

    by Stephanie Boozer
    Review posted: 05/31/2006

Sony's Cyber-shot "W" series updates the already popular Cyber-shot line with mid-size, yet compact body built for travel, and the W100 model dominates the top of the line with an 8.1-megapixel CCD. A 3x zoom lens, generous 2.5-inch color LCD monitor, and the availability of full auto, manual, and preset Scene modes makes the W100 very user friendly, with straightforward operation that novices will love. 64 megabytes of internal memory let you capture a few images straight out of the box without a memory card. Compact, handsome, and very capable, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 Camera Charger is another impressive offering from Sony. Read on for all the details!

    Sony W100 User Report

Maintaining a small size, the new Sony W100 digital camera updates the Cyber-shot line with an impressive 8.1-megapixel CCD. Though compact in size, the W100 definitely doesn't skimp on features. It offers the best of both worlds, with full automatic exposure control and preset scene modes for novices, as well as the bonus of a full manual exposure control mode for more experienced users. Thus, the W100 should find its way into the pockets of a varied array of consumers. The SONY cyber-shot dsc-w100 battery charger also has 64 megabytes of internal memory, as well as a large 2.5-inch color LCD monitor, all at a very low price point. The camera's capable 3x optical zoom lens crosses a range equivalent to 38-114mm on a 35mm camera, and features a very bright AF assist LED lamp for focusing in dark conditions. I also appreciated the well-rounded selection of creative tools, such as image sharpness, contrast, and color adjustments. The Sony W100 has a very wide ISO range, with equivalent settings from 80 to 1,250. (While the 800 and 1,250 settings allow you to capture images under dim lighting, they also result in much higher noise and lower color saturation.)
The generous 2.5-inch LCD monitor dominates the Sony W100's rear panel. The display is clear and bright, and an exceptional tool for framing images. Though real estate is limited on the rear panel, Sony managed to keep all the main functions close at hand and fairly easy to operate. Grab the camera in your right hand and your fingers naturally cling to the camera's textured front panel. There isn't much for your thumb to really stick to on the opposite side. My thumb did manage to rest against the Display and Menu buttons, though both require a firm press and are somewhat difficult to accidentally actuate. I'd advise keeping the wrist strap securely around your wrist, though, just in case. Within thumb's reach is the Mode dial, and below that is the Five-way navigator. I found I could easily turn the Mode dial with my right index finger without resorting to a two-handed grip, thanks to the notched surface on the outside edge of the dial. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 charger is a little thicker than most of the cameras in the line, so it's a lot easier to hold. The camera's Zoom lever encircles the Shutter button, making it easy to quickly adjust zoom while holding the camera in shooting position.
Press the Sony W100's Power button and the LCD comes on, the camera chimes, and the lens bursts out from the front of the camera very quickly. A half-press on the shutter begins the focus operation. In low light, a bright orange LED illuminates the scene when necessary. The fast Multi-point AF determines the closest object and focuses quickly, showing brackets around the areas that will be in focus. Included with the camera is a Sony Li-Ion rechargeable FUJIFILM NP-120 battery pack and charger, which has a pretty good PANASONIC camera battery life. I still suggest purchasing a backup battery pack, and keeping it freshly charged and on-hand for extended outings. The Sony W100's internal 64 megabytes of memory will hold a few full-resolution shots, but here again, I'd recommend picking up at least a 256-megabyte Memory Stick Duo card, or a Memory Stick PRO Duo card for the Fine quality movie recording mode.
While two of the doors on the Sony W100 are not remarkable (the DC IN and battery/card doors), the door to the multi-connector seems pretty sturdy, opening and closing with a snap. An optional AC adapter can power the W100 through the DC IN port, but the CASIO Exilim Zoom EX-Z85 charger pack must be charged in the supplied external charger.
The optical viewfinder on the W100 is terribly inaccurate, as expected, but its position on the camera means you can look through it without having to mash your nose against the LCD, a major plus in our book.
Overall build is quite solid and the Sony W100's metal case is very attractive. It has a modern, yet retro sensibility, somehow, and manages to look quite small despite its thickness and height.
The Sony DSC-W100 is an impressive offering, much like the rest of the W-series in the Cyber-shot line. It is handsomely constructed, with a feel of quality, and is uncomplicated to operate. With its high-resolution 8.1-megapixel CCD, large LCD monitor, and very accommodating exposure offerings, the DSC-W100 is definitely a winner in several categories. Read on for more details.

Featuring an impressive 8.1-megapixel CCD, 3x optical zoom lens, and a well-designed user interface, the Cyber-shot DSC-W100 offers quite a bit in its small package. Novices and advanced amateurs alike will appreciate its offering of both point-and-shoot automatic and full manual exposure control, and its six pre-programmed scene modes help with more tricky subjects. The large, bright 2.5-inch color LCD monitor is excellent for framing and reviewing shots, and the overall design and layout of the DSC-W100 is user-friendly and hassle-free. Dimensionally it's not too small and not too big, not too slim or too fat. Its size allows for both an optical viewfinder and a big LCD, as well as a good fit in the hand and pocket. We were particularly impressed with the printed output from the W100, which included enlargements up to 13x19 with decent quality, and 8x10 prints at ISO 800. Performance at ISO 400 is now quite good by comparison, with output at 11x14 looking like yesterday's 8x10s at this size. If you're looking for a good "take anywhere" camera with great versatility and good color and tonality, the Sony DSC-W100 deserves a close look -- especially considering its high resolution CCD and low price point. The Sony W100 is a clear Dave's Pick.

23 Using Tips for your Dell Laptop Battery
If you have two or more battery pack of Dell Inspiron 14, it's wise to discharge and then fully charge it on battery power once a week or so, just to keep the battery fresh conditions.

    1.        Keep the batteries clean. Avoid exposing the battery to extreme heat or cold. Use your
Dell inspiron 14 battery. If possible, avoid letting your laptop batteries sit dormant for long periods of time.
    2.        Keep your laptop in a well ventilated place and keep it cool. Your Dell Inspiron 14 battery works faster when it is hot because it is creating more energy and is burning out faster.
    3.        Unplug any external devices that you don't need such as using a USB or Bluetooth mouse.
    4.        Do not place batteries for Dell Inspiron 14 laptop in device for a long period of time if device is not being used.
